NOAA's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) remote sensing aircraft was on display at the Alpena Regional Airport on Tuesday, May15th from 12pm-2pm. The crew of the Cessna Citation II gave tours of the aircraft and explained the remote sensing equipment on board. The Citation II conducted a bathymetric photogrammetry project over Thunder Bay during the week. The crew used aerial film cameras to detect shipwrecks by flying within certain parameters to maximize the penetration through the water column. This mission was part of the NOAA Research and Development program.
A news release was published in the Alpena News and the public was invited to visit the plane and talk with the crew and Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary staff.
This event was sponsored by Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
