Final Environmental Impact Statement / Management Plan

The Final Environmental Impact Statement / Management Plan (FEIS/MP) for the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary was published in June 1999. The FEIS was developed to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The document describes the education, research, and protection programs envisioned for the sanctuary, discusses the alternatives considered in developing the proposal, and incorporates public comments received on the Draft EIS/MP.

The FEIS/MP includes the draft regulations and Memorandum of Understanding between NOAA and the State of Michigan. The document also includes a section on the region's maritime cultural landscape, with a number of historic photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
